Wednesday, June 1, 1994 - Beaufort, NC

We both overslept this morning. Didn't get up until 8:30. Just had time to drink some orange juice and eat a bowl of cereal before the Travellift arrived. This was the first time in ages that I've been around for a haulout or in. At Cobb's, I was gone both times. When we hauled out here at Bock's, I was fast asleep, and Roy wouldn't let them wake me up, even though it was against the rules to have anyone on the boat. But this morning, I was up and about and able to do a little something to help with the process.
When we got back in the water, we tied to the dock in three feet of mud. Roy spent several hours putting the headstay back in place and getting the radar reflector out of the way of the wind generator blades. A single-hander came in on a sailboat and threw a line to one of the workers. Trouble was, he forgot to attach the other end of the line to his boat! I've heard of people doing stuff like that, but this was the first time I'd seen it. Anyway, he finally got in.
Very windy, but we zoomed down the ICW to Beaufort in two hours. To my secret glee, Roy went aground! It was soft mud, and he got off right away, but it goes to show, even the best can go aground.
We were going to anchor in the Beaufort Inlet, but it was too crowded, so we tied to the restaurant dock. The restaurant was closed, but a man came down and collected $20.
It's nice to be able to step off the boat and walk around town any time we want to.
The slight oozing of water into the center compartments has stopped. Everything looks nice and dry now.
